A balance is a starting point.
Imagine an example business with $84,620 in its operating account. That number matters, but it cannot explain the month on its own. What came in? What was paid? Which account is still missing a statement? Those are different questions, and they deserve more than one dashboard total.
DoLedger’s Overview brings together cash in the bank, amounts owed on cards, income and net income. The Map takes a different approach: start with an account and follow where its money went, one press at a time.
Open the total. Follow the transactions.
In our illustrative month, money out totals $31,840: $18,400 for payroll, $8,640 for supplies and $4,800 for operations. These are example numbers. The point is the path from an account to a category to the payments underneath it.
If a category is unfamiliar, look at the detail before drawing a conclusion. The name of a payee, the date and the supporting record can turn a vague concern into a specific question for you or your bookkeeper.
Keep the source close.
A clear explanation is useful only if the books connect back to the records. Bank vs books checks each account against its statement, while reconciliation helps match the account to that statement.
The next time a total surprises you, begin with the account, follow its transactions and check which records are still missing. DoLedger is designed to keep that trail within reach.
